As the founders of Marriage Underdogs™, Chris and Shauntay bring more than just professional expertise as licensed marriage and family therapists—they bring lived experience. Their journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been real: from navigating an unexpected teen pregnancy, long-distance seasons, and family challenges to weathering the storms of mental health and communication breakdowns, they've walked through the fire and come out more connected than ever.
Now, two decades into their relationship, they’re opening their hearts and hard-earned wisdom to couples who are ready to deepen their bond, rebuild their trust, and reignite the spark.
As Christians, devoted parents of three, and passionate advocates for love and connection, Chris and Shauntay have made it their mission to show couples what’s possible—even when it feels like the odds are against them. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, they love exploring new places, laughing with their kids, and spending intentional time together as a family.

How many rooms are available?This is an exclusive and intimate retreat, limited to just 15 couples. We've intentionally kept the group small to ensure every couple receives personalized attention and a high-quality experience. Once those 15 rooms are booked, registration will close—so reserve your spot early!

Is this retreat only for married couples or couples in crisis?Not at all. This retreat is open to all committed couples—whether you're married, engaged, cohabiting, or dating with the intent to marry. You do not have to be legally married to attend. It’s designed for couples who want to grow, reconnect, and celebrate their relationship. While couples experiencing deeper issues may benefit, we recommend completing a few counseling sessions in advance. This retreat is not recommended for abusive relationships or active addiction recovery without prior treatment.

Is the price per couple or per person?The price is per couple.

Will we have to share personal details with the group?Only if you want to. The retreat is focused on private, couple-centered work. During breakout sessions, you’ll engage directly with your partner—not in front of others. There are optional Q&A opportunities and social mixers, but no one is ever pressured to share. Our environment is respectful, warm, and judgment-free—designed for connection, not discomfort.

Will we have time to ourselves?Definitely. We’ve built in plenty of free time for rest, romance, and reconnection. You’ll have the space to enjoy spa treatments, private dinners, beach walks, or naps without a packed schedule. Each day is balanced between transformation and leisure.

Can we bring our children?No. This is a couples-only retreat. Children are not allowed in the reserved room block or during any part of the retreat. We believe in giving couples dedicated time away to focus on each other, uninterrupted and fully present.
